The conference realignment fiasco is far from over and could be just beginning again.
CBS Sports is reporting that Boise State and San Diego State will both announce tomorrow that they are departing the Mountain West in football for the Big East Conference beginning in the 2013-14 season.
What that could mean for each school's softball program is anyone's guess. Mountain West commissioner Craig Thompson has already said publicly that Boise State would not be allowed to keep its non-football sports in the MW if it chooses to leave in football. One can assume that may be true for San Diego State as well, but no one knows for sure.
Numerous media reports in the past have indicated that any departures by the Broncos and Aztecs could create a domino effect. There have been indications that the Mountain West could invite Utah State and San Jose State, or others, from the Western Athletic Conference.
