San Diego St. pounds reeling New Mexico again

San Diego State improved to 5-0 in the Mountain West (24-19 overall) with a 12-6 win in Albuquerque Saturday over reeling New Mexico.

The Aztecs saw their lead in the MW standings grow to two full games over Boise State, which suffered its second loss in a row to Colorado State by a 5-3 score Saturday.  The Rams are now 2-3 in the conference, while the Broncos are 3-2.  San Diego State topped New Mexico 8-3 in game one of their series on Friday.

Both the CSU-BSU series, as well as the SDSU-UNM series, will conclude Sunday with a game three in both.

San Diego State sent New Mexico to its ninth loss in the last 11 games.  Both Division I softball teams in the state of New Mexico are on extended losing streaks.  UNM has two wins in its last 11 contests, while New Mexico State is now 2-15 in its last 17.  Ironically, New Mexico State has two wins this season over the Lobos, including a 9-1, run-rule affair in Albuquerque earlier this month.

Colorado State moved a game over .500 at 22-21 overall.  It is just the second time the Rams have inched a game over .500 this season.
