MW champ San Diego State off to UCLA regional

San Diego State captured the 2012 Mountain West regular-season championship and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament that comes along with it.

The Aztecs finished the season 30-22 overall and 9-3 in the conference with their fifth Mountain West title.  It was the first since 2008, however, since BYU won the past three.  The Cougars (43-13 overall) this year were placed in the Western Athletic Conference for one season before moving to the PCSC.

San Diego State will open play at the Los Angeles Regional in the NCAA Tournament Friday by facing Florida State (46-14) of the Atlantic Coast Conference.  The game between the Aztecs and Seminoles begins Friday at 3 p.m. Pacific time, and will be followed by a game between host UCLA (36-18) and Hofstra (38-13).  The Bruins, who beat SDSU 1-0 earlier this season, are the No. 12 overall seed in tourney.
