San Diego State routs BYU 9-1 in 5 innings

Co-host San Diego State got the start it wanted to the weekend, run-ruling former Mountain West rival BYU 9-1 in five innings Thursday.  It was the opening game of 22 this weekend in the San Diego Classic I, co-hosted by the Aztecs and USD.

San Diego State poured it on against a BYU team now off to its worst start in more than a decade.  The Cougars are now 5-11 on the season while the Aztecs improved to 9-7.

Lorena Bauer went 4-for-4 with three doubles and two RBI, while Kristin May was 3-for-3 with two doubles, and Kamerin May had a pair of hits.  Freshman pitcher Danielle O'Toole scattered seven hits in the 5-inning game for the win.

BYU starter Hannah Howell took the loss, and the Cougars used junior outfielder Carly Duckworth to pitch for the first time.  First baseman Katie Manuma also pitched for BYU in the contest.
