Aztecs beat Iona to move back over .500

In the only softball game involving a Mountain West team Tuesday, San Diego State pounded out 15 hits in a 10-7 win at home over Iona.  Lorena Bauer, who had pitched just three innings this season, got the start and her first win of the year, scattering nine hits in a complete-game effort.  The Gaels took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning but the Aztecs responded with a pair of big innings to score 10 straight runs.  The Aztecs withstood a 4-run seventh inning when Iona of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference hit a pair of 2-run home runs to close the gap.  Katie Mathis went 4-for-4, while four other San Diego State players (Kayla Jordan, Kamerin May, Patrice Jackson and Kayla Bufardeci) had two hits apiece.  The Aztecs' 15 hits were a season high as they moved a game over .500 at 13-12.  Iona dropped to 4-11 on the season.  It was the first of seven San Diego State games this week over five consecutive days.
