New Mexico sweeps a pair from UTEP

A big day from Mariah Rimmer and two complete-game pitching performances led New Mexico to a doubleheader sweep of UTEP Wednesday in Albuquerque.  The Lobos won the opener 6-5 with a walk-off win in the bottom of the seventh.  A pair of singles, including one by Rimmer to complete a 4-for-4 game, came with one out in the seventh.  A passed ball advanced both runners into scoring position, and UNM won it on an error by Miners freshman pitcher Danielle Pearson.  Kaela DeBroeck was the first-game winner, scattering eight hits.  Rimmer scored three runs in game one, had a pair of RBI, hit a homer and double, and also added a stolen base.  Naomi Tellez had three hits in the opener, while Cassandra Kalapsa and Kaity Ingram each had triples.  In the nightcap, Rimmer added a hit, walked and scored a run.  Lobos freshman left-hander Lauren Soles got the win in a 4-2 victory in game two.  New Mexico is now 21-29 overall after the non-conference doubleheader, while UTEP fell to 12-30.
