Friday's resultsFresno State 1, NC State 0 - Sophomore pitcher Jill Compton tossed a 2-hit shutout in her first game of 2014 as the Bulldogs knocked off the defending ACC champion Wolfpack in Tempe. Compton didn't allow a runner to advance past second base in the contest. NC State received votes in both major preseason polls, entering the game ranked 27th by ESPN and 32nd by the NFCA.
Boise State 6, Utah 1 - Broncos score the game's final six runs to pick up their first win in program history over a Pac-12 opponent. Boise State had beaten Utah in the past, but that was when the Utes were a Mountain West member.
Nevada 10, BYU 9 - The Wolf Pack lost a 5-run lead, then rallied from three runs down in the sixth inning to win a wild game over the Cougars in St. George, Utah. Nevada scored four times in the sixth inning to win its season opener. BYU, which was stunned by Weber State in its opener Thursday, fell to 1-2.
#22 Stanford 13, San Diego St. 1 (5 innings) - The Cardinal pounded the Aztecs with an explosive 8-run top of the fifth inning. Freshman Erica Romero lasted 1 2/3 innings in her second career start. San Diego State had more errors (3) than hits (2) in the game.
#8 Oregon 10, Fresno State 9 (8 innings) - The Bulldogs couldn't hold a 5-run lead and left the bases loaded in both the seventh and eighth innings of their first season-opening loss since 2007. Fresno State committed a pair of errors and had a passed ball, allowing Oregon to score four costly, unearned runs.
Creighton 4, Boise State 0 - Despite out-hitting the Blue Jays, the Broncos couldn't come up with a clutch hit in a surprising shutout loss.
Nevada 4, Southern Utah 2 - Jasmine Jenkins went 3-for-3 as the Wolf Pack won its second game of the day.
Grand Canyon 5, Utah State 3 - The Aggies lost their second straight game in the Red Desert Classic, falling to the first-year WAC members.
Arkansas 12, UNLV 4 (5 innings) - The Rebels were run-ruled at home in their season opening game that was part of the Sportco Classic in Las Vegas.
Northwestern 10, New Mexico 0 (5 innings) - The Wildcats blanked the Lobos in Tempe.
