|Fresno State President Joseph I. Castro threw the 1st pitch Sunday|
Fresno State completed a perfect 5-0 weekend Sunday, while Nevada took care of Hawai'i, and San Diego State edged St. Mary's to go 4-1 on Sunday. In the end, those three teams sit atop the Mountain West with 8-2 overall records.
It was Trisha Ford's Fresno State squad that posted a pair of wins today, run-ruling Cal State Bakersfield 9-1 in six innings before beating UC Santa Barbara 6-5 in eight innings. The Bulldogs won their fifth consecutive game, while also snapping the Gauchos' 5-game winning streak. UCSB dropped to 6-3, and Fresno State remained undefeated (8-0) against teams ranked outside the nation's top 10. The only teams to defeat the Bulldogs this year are Oregon and Arizona State, who are a combined 20-1.
Nevada jumped all over a Hawai'i team that is clearly missing its top pitchers Stephanie Ricketts and Kaia Parnaby, mainstays over the past few years. UH, which has struggled even in its wins this season, was blasted 11-2 in five innings by the Wolf Pack. Nevada went 4-1 this weekend, with its only loss coming in a 10-6 setback to Chattanooga.
San Diego State also finished 4-1 this weekend with a 3-2 win in eight innings over St. Mary's. The Aztecs bounced back from a loss at home to Texas State on Saturday.
Elsewhere, Boise State picked up a win over Utah Valley and some other Mountain West teams struggled.
