Mountain West coaches pick Fresno State to win 2015 crown

The Mountain West softball coaches have spoken.  In the conference's preseason coaches poll announced today, Fresno State was selected as the favorite to win the 2015 MW title, receiving seven of eight possible first-place votes.

The Bulldogs earned 63 total points to out-distance runner-up San Diego State.  The Aztecs, who were not chosen as preseason favorites for the first time in four years, picked up one first-place vote and a total of 54 points.

The nine vote margin between first and second places is the largest in the history of the MW preseason coaches poll.  Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own teams, ranking the others one through eight.

Selected third was UNLV, with the final first-place vote and a total of 44 points.  The Rebels narrowly edged Colorado State (43 points, fourth place).  Rounding out the top five was San Jose State with 34 points.

Boise State, under first-year head coach Cindy Ball, was picked sixth (33 points), followed by Nevada (26 points, seventh place).  Utah State (18 points) and New Mexico (9 points) round out the rest of the poll.
