TUESDAY: Bulldogs move up in coaches poll, Lobos post sweep

Fresno State moved up in the latest USA Today/NFCA Top 25 coaches poll released Tuesday morning.  The Bulldogs, who picked up one vote a week ago to rank 36th, jumped to four votes this week.  That's good enough to rank 31st in the country.  After the Top 25, the next six teams in line this week were (in order): South Carolina, Texas, James Madison, Virginia Tech, Mississippi State and Fresno State.  The Bulldogs are 32 votes shy of 25th-ranked Kansas ... In the only games played Tuesday, New Mexico swept a home-opening doubleheader from UTEP, winning game one 7-5 and the nightcap 7-4.  In the process, the Lobos improved their record to 10-7 overall.  UNM didn't post its 10th win a year ago until March 23.  In game one, Michala Erickson hit a home run and Carrie Sheehan pitched six innings without allowing an earned run.  Jasmine Casados had a pair of hits and three RBI, while freshman Chelsea Johnson had two hits.  In game two, Casados and Lisa Rodrigues both hit solo home runs, and Casados finished with a 4-for-7 day with six RBI.  Lauren Soles picked up the win in the nightcap, tossing 5 1/3 innings, allowing a run on four hits.  New Mexico overcame some shaky defense, committing six errors on the day.  UTEP, which defeated Colorado State last weekend, dropped to 3-19 on the year.
